What Wisconsin law requires of any public adjuster you hire.

Wisconsin regulates public adjusters under Wis. Stat. ch. 629. Key protections for policyholders:

  • 5-business-day right to cancel. You may void the contract no later than 5 business days after it is signed, by registered or certified mail, return receipt requested, to the address on the contract, or by personally serving notice at the place of business on the contract (Wis. Stat. 629.04(3)).
  • No solicitation during the loss. A public adjuster may not solicit you while the loss-producing event is still in progress (Wis. Stat. 629.10(1)).
  • Limited hours right after a loss. A public adjuster may not ‘Solicit an insured outside the hours of 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. during the first 24 hours after the loss’ (Wis. Stat. 629.10(6)).
  • You choose your own contractor. A public adjuster may not require you to use a particular contractor or vendor (Wis. Stat. 629.09).
  • Fee limit after declared disasters. Wisconsin law: ‘A public adjuster may not receive compensation in excess of 10 percent of an insured’s actual recovery under the insurance policy if the claim is due to a catastrophic disaster.’ A catastrophic disaster is ‘an event for which the president of the United States or the governor has declared a state of emergency.’ (Wis. Stat. 629.05(1), (6).)
